Tributes are pouring in for the British star today after he passed away at home in L.A. last night, Monday 28th December, following a recent diagnosis of cancer.
The band announced on their Facebook page that Lemmy had passed away on 26th December and requested that fans, “play Lemmy’s music LOUD. Have a drink or few. Share stories. Celebrate the LIFE this lovely, wonderful man celebrated so vibrantly himself.”
Ian ‘Lemmy’ Kilmister was born in Burslem, Staffordshire on Christmas Eve 1945. After cutting his teeth in lots of rock bands, Lemmy formed Motörhead in 1975 and the band’s early years are credited with laying the ground for thrash and speed metal. He always refused to categorise their music as either punk or metal.
Motörhead released 23 studio albums and are best known for their hit single Ace of Spades. They were due to tour the UK and France in early 2016.
