[Premiere & Interview] Underspreche – ‘Poet – Ease’ (Music Video)

Underspreche is the Italian duo made up of Marika Della Torre and Simone Campanile. Together they produce music that deftly balances emotion and multiple world influences with a tougher edge dedicated to the dancefloor. When the pair met over 10 years ago, an immediate bond was formed and Underspreche was born.

The music video for ‘Poet – Ease’ is the visual representation of the track itself, basically, the need to free oneself from inner sorrow. Underspreche collaborated with Detroit performer Biba Bell, who danced freely to the track with no specific and prepared choreography. Her performance represents the positive energy we have inside that fights against our pain. Sandra Restrepo, who is the voice of the track, tells a very personal story about depression and working against those negative thoughts that we can create for ourselves. Underspreche hopes they can give positive energy all over with this song.

We were lucky enough to get the chance to chat to Underspreche and ask them a few questions.

Tell us about your earliest musical memory?

Simone: When I decided to buy my first mixer, a Monacor. I knew I need one to DJ but I didn’t know how to use it.

Marika: When I was 3/4 years old and my parents let me get up on a table to dance in the style of “Lambada”.

At what point in your life did you have that moment where you said to yourself “This is it. This is the type of music I want to create?”

After releasing our album “Invito Alla Danza”… From there, everything was clear.

Please list some of the most influential albums on your creative outlook and output:

Daft Punk – Homework; Jocelyn Pook – Flood; Brian Eno & Dave Byrne – My Life in the bush of ghosts; Ricardo Villalobos – Alcachofa; Ricardo Villalobos & Max Loderbauer – Re ECM 2011 ECM Records; Philipp Glass – Einstein on the Beach

What key pieces of gear/software are you using to define your sound?

We changed our set up several times but in this particular period we are going for minimal, the most important gear is definitely “Ableton Live” and how to use it, focusing on effects to design our sound.

What inspires you outside of music? What do you turn to when the creative well runs a little low?

Books, Tv series, videogames, pizza.

What is your opinion on the ever-spreading sub-genre vine? Are there too many? Do you think there’s perhaps a sub-genre that doesn’t get the attention it deserves?

We always don’t give too much attention to tags and genre, it’s a matter of feelings in our opinions. Electronic music itself it’s about contamination so…Sub-genres or not, it’s always about the music, not the tag.

Studio work and music creation or performing and interacting with a live audience, what do you prefer?

They are both necessary to feel complete.

As a music artist, it becomes apparent that there is a huge difference between the art and the business. Is there anything about the music scene that you would personally change?

Nowadays it’s pretty difficult to spread out your arts without thinking business is also part of this joke, you need to develop both. We will recognize fake artists trough time.

Any new or upcoming artists on your radar? Who shouldn’t the world sleep on?

We always have. Our radar lights up on new artists and new music that can inspire our music as well. In this particular moment, we are focused on different music but someone who really touched us is Shadowax.

What can we expect from you in the near future? Any upcoming projects or gigs in the pipeline that you would like to tell us about?

We are working on new music and another new project will be announced soon.

Famous last words?

With Love
