Single Review: Trevor Something Embraces Cold, Introspective Synth-Pop In ‘What You’re Doing To Me’

Trevor Something | What You’re Doing To Me | In Your Brain LLC

Release Date: 15 January, 2021

Enigmatic musician and producer Trevor Something returns with his latest single ‘What You’re Doing To Me’. Following his previous 2020 LP ‘Deep Wave Data Dark Web Daemons’ which we reviewed in depth here; the mysterious incandescence of Trevor Something’s work takes a slightly different route than before in ‘What You’re Doing To Me’.

While the artist is known for blending a cacophony of genres into something uniquely his own, ‘What You’re Doing To Me’ takes a hold of Trevor’s synth-pop prowess x post-punk bliss. While shrouded in the artist’s distinct, midnight, echoic sound – rich with a dark coldwave aura – the track sings in a more linear manner and “accessible” fashion than that of some of the heavier engulfs of focused chaos in previous works from ‘Deep Wave Data Dark Web Daemons’.

A powerful, bold beat drives the track forward with walls of industrial, gritty euphoria as blossoming synth melodies and bold distortion cloak the track. Trevor’s smooth, R&B-esque vocals stand out as a shimmering highlight, as the personal introspection of the track shines through.
