serpentwithfeet | Fellowship | Secretly Canadian
Release Date: 25 January, 2021
In a brand new offering by vocalist, songwriter and producer serpentwithfeet, the artist has released ‘Fellowship’ as his album ‘DEACON‘ approaches; with a set release date of March 26th via Secretly Canadian.
Co-written and co-produced with Sampha and Lil Silva – serpentwithfeet is known for exploring the intricacies and intimacies of deeply personal experiences through heart-wrenching R&B – however, regarding the upcoming ‘DEACON’ he explains:
I originally approached this project wanting to make something that felt very sensuous. Something a lot softer, a lot more gentle than my previous work.
With the purposeful decision to exclude tracks about heartbreak, serpentwithfeet instead explores the tenderness of close companionships; friendship, family, the celebration of love as a gay Black man as well as retracing his roots to his religious upbringing.
‘Fellowship’ can’t help but allow one to feel genuine, authentic joy – especially in an accompaniment with the official music video, it’s genuinely a beautiful experience to listen to, watch and really feel the kindness and care poured into a track that emanates love and gratitude. It’s extremely refreshing, especially as many R&B tracks often contain themes and elements of melancholy as opposed to a feeling of real happiness.
Engaging electronic textures drum rhythmically throughout ‘Fellowship’, intricately weaved together alongside serpentwithfeet’s velveteen vocals and tender lyrics. Gentle in nature, ‘Fellowship’ still holds an upbeat, playful and sensual aura within its loving atmospheric feel.
