Rest In Peace Andrew Weatherall
It is with a heavy heart to learn of the passing of beloved, acclaimed English DJ and producer Andrew Weatherall. Yesterday, February 17th – Weatherall, aged 56 died in a London hospital due to heart complications; and with Andrew’s passing, the music industry finds itself in a deep state of mourning. Weatherall’s management released a statement regarding his death:
“We are deeply sorry to announce that Andrew Weatherall, the noted DJ and musician passed away in the early hours of this morning, Monday, 17th February, 2020, at Whipps Cross Hospital, London. The cause of death was a pulmonary embolism. He was being treated in hospital but unfortunately the blood clot reached his heart. His death was swift and peaceful. His family and friends are profoundly saddened by his death and are taking time to gather their thoughts.“
The impact Weatherall has had on the music industry throughout the years has been profound; known for his influence in the London electronic music scene in the 80’s and 90’s, Weatherall became a regular DJ at Danny Rampling’s iconic nightclub Shoom, where he made a name for himself in the acid house scene. As a part of Boy Own’s collective, a staple in the London electronic music scene; Weatherall featured as a journalist, producer and DJ – along with making waves in the industry, the producer also worked with, produced and remixed works from notable acts such as My Bloody Valentine, Siouxie Sioux, Primal Scream and New Order.
Andrew Weatherall impacted the electronic music world in a way that aptly notes him as a cultural icon, especially with the incredible impact he had on UK culture.
Weatherall will be deeply missed by all.
