Astronautica Announces New Album, Shares Single ‘Can’t Remember’

Article by Maya-Rose Torrão

Underground electronic queen Astronautica has just announced the release of her third full length album ‘Death Valley’, which is scheduled to be released on the 24th of August this year. This release will be launched through distribution and record company Alpha Pup, who have worked with massive names in the electronic music scene such as Bassnecter, TOKiMONSTA and The Glitch Mob, and follows the musician’s critically acclaimed album ‘Gemini’ and the recent ‘Gemini Remixes EP’.

Astronautica recorded the entirety of ‘Death Valley’ over three years at her Los Angeles home studio, which ties into the artist’s relationship with America’s ‘city of angels’ as, like her past works, the album captures the eclectic nature of LA’s experimental electronic scene. Only one single has been released from the album so far, the soft and moody track ‘Can’t Remember’, which features gorgeous washed-out vocal manipulations, sensual reverb-soaked guitar riffs and crisp, pulsing beats. The sound of the new album as a whole also pays tribute to the mysticism and dreamy vastness of the desert, which Astronautica draws on for a lot of her inspiration.

The desert is a recurring theme in a lot of my music and art. Something about it – the contrast of what looks like desolation to the naked eye to the vibrancy that one sees upon looking closer, the silence that allows you to hear the faint sounds in the air, the formations that are colours you’ve never even heard of before, and night sky that serves as a backdrop for every star in our galaxy – are all elements that I wanted to echo in Death Valley. I wanted to create an album that people could listen to while they cruise through their desert, wherever or whatever that may be for them.” – Astronautica

While recording ‘Death Valley’ Astronautica was also working hard at performing and creating in other areas of her music career. The LA-native managed to record her latest LP while also completing her Ace Hotel residency, festival dates throughout the States, a mini-tour up the West Coast, and a month-long stint with Low End Theory. It’s no wonder this hard-working musician is the next big thing when it comes to the underground electronic music scene.
