While Coachella is the most notorious name for festivals in Southern California, FYF is coveted as the best for locals and highly regarded as a well-kept secret for underground music fans in the area. With a stellar lineup that includes Kendrick Lamar, Tame Impala, Blood Orange, Hot Chip, Young Thug, Grace Jones, Andy Stott, Floating Points, and a whole host of other brilliant artists on the lineup, this is not a festival to miss if you happen to find yourself in Los Angeles on August 27th and 28th.
Over the last couple of years, the festival has found its footing in the famous Exposition Park, and while the location has taken a while to find root, the lineup has increasingly become stronger with each passing year. Mixing an eclectic mesh of indie, dance, and hip hop, their biggest artists tend to be poetic, political, and artistic, boasting elegance and appreciation for art over looking for the DJ’s with the biggest drops. Separating wheat from chaff with their high caliber curation, FYF pairs the warm Los Angeles sun with acts like Anohni. Kelela, Grace Jones, and Hot Chip, with eccentric, slightly mainstream but still well-respected voices like Kendrick Lamar, Young Thug, Grimes, and LCD Soundsystem. This is the festival where you will find LA’s music and art scene to present themselves. While Coachella and HARD Summer have come to represent the West Coast’s festival scenes, Los Angelino’s know the real festival high comes at the end of August with FYF.
